DENIS MUKWEGE: LEGE PÅ LIV OG DØDBERTHIL ÅKERLUND
In 2018 Denis Mukwege received the Nobel Peace Prize, together with Nadia Murad, for their fight against sexual violence in war.
Denis Mukwege is a gynecologist and chief surgeon at Panzi Hospital outside Bukavu in the Congo. He specializes in treating women who have been raped. Since 1999, he has treated 50,000 women and girls who have been subjected to serious sexual violence as part of acts of war. After a failed assassination attempt on Mukwege in his home in 2012, he lived in exile in Europe for a period, which was very devastating for the operation of his hospital. In January 2013, he returned to the Congo and was received as a great hero. He has become world famous for his work and has received a number of awards.
